Stage 40: Sonchaux (1258m) to Montreux (372m)

Just a short walk today, down to the gorgeous and sophisticated resort town of Montreux on beautiful Lac Léman. If your budget allows, check into one of the superb hotels along the lake, strip off your hiking clothes, and head to the spa/pool/sunbathing area and/or perhaps treat yourself to a massage.

Once you feel like moving again there are people to watch, sights to see, cafes and restaurants to enjoy, chic boutiques to glide through, and art and concerts and movies and museums and everything you haven't had while on the H2H.

Why not make this a time to relax and recover? Stay for at least a couple of nights and don't think of what lies ahead... you'll be back on the trails soon enough.

Route
Take the road north from Sonchaux in the direction of Caux and then, after about a kilometer, follow the path that plunges down to your left signposted to Glion (689m). From Glion a steep set of stairs leads down to Montreux.

Alternatives: I hesitate to mention an alternative for such a short hike, but if you can't face the last 350m descent from Glion, then there is a cog-railway that will take you down to the lake. It won't save you much time, but it will save your knees!
